The thesis project “Mineralia” is part of an interdisciplinary research context that combines natural sciences, scientific communication, and design. It aims to make the complex concepts of the mineral world and the Centovalli region accessible and engaging, often reserved for experts. Using visual communication, the book integrates geology, geography, and design to enhance a mineral collection, narrating the territory from a landscape scale to microscopic details.
Collaboration with experts allowed for a deeper understanding of minerals and the territory. After a preliminary research phase, technical tools such as macro lenses, microscopes, and QGIS software were used to manage the visual and textual content, entirely created firsthand. Visual communication was central in creating infographics and texts.
A portable guide inspired by the “Pantone” sample book design was also developed for hikers and mineral enthusiasts. “Mineralia” represents the meeting point between designers and scientists, with the goal of sharing the beauty of the Centovalli and its minerals, conveying scientific knowledge in an engaging and evocative way.
