The central theme of the thesis concerns the visual identity projects for museum institutions. The thesis is divided into two phases, research and project.
The research phase addresses the theme of visual communication in museums, identifying and analyzing some early historical examples in Italy and Europe. The historical research is followed by one that concerns the contemporary, with the aim of highlighting how the visual communication of museum institutions is evolving today. Specifically, some case studies designed over the last ten years are examined. The analysis identifies a common trend, that is the adoption of a dynamic and increasingly flexible identity system. The project phase shows the process that led to the creation of the visual identity proposal for Palazzo Chiaramonte Steri (Palermo).
The last part of the thesis is dedicated to a real project. This involves the creation of the graphics for a documentary – GAP, Graffiti Art in Prison – which takes inspiration from Palazzo Chiaramonte Steri.
