Voltare pagina. Progetto e direzione artistica nella rivista indipendente di moda was born with the desire to analyze the dynamics and the points of contact that are established between art direction and contemporary independent fashion magazines. Intended as a place where the barriers between disciplines are eliminated, the research starts from a historical analysis to introduce in the first place the experiences of 032c and Novembre.
The main case study of the work, however, is Kaleidoscope, an Italian magazine founded in Milan in 2008 by the founder Alessio Ascari.
The experience of the magazine is reviewed with a lens focused on the work of artistic direction carried out by graphic designers that over the years have given a new look to the entire publishing platform, moving more and more casually between editorial formats straddling analog and digital.
The work was carried out under the supervision of Saul Marcadent and Fiorella Bulegato, with the fundamental contribution by Tommaso Garner, art director of Rivista Studio e Alla Carta, and Filippo Nostri, founder of Edizioni Sete.
The research was carried out in the archives of the University Library of the IUAV University of Venice and ASAC of the Venice Biennale, reconstructing the archive of the magazine in its entirety. The whole book is realized with scans realized on the numbers consulted in the various centers.
