The project began in 2020 with a clear goal: promoting creativity that felt stifled at the time, and helping young graphic designers from Italy find their way in the field.
Being closely connected with many professionals in the industry, we saw an opportunity to bridge the gap between students and the real world, bringing together different realities, building partnerships, and acting as a bridge between people.
We started as an independent magazine. Two issues: the first focused on graphic design, the second P01 – Caratteri Inediti (2021) on type design, featuring seven unpublished typefaces. Both were distributed for free across 180+ studios, agencies, institutes, and independent bookshops across Italy. With P01 something became clear: six of the seven featured designers were studying abroad. None of them in Italy. The gap between Italian talent and Italian visibility became the real reason Pittogramma existed.

Pittogramma Digital Platform 1.0, 2024
In 2024 Pittogramma evolved into a fully digital platform: more dynamic and ambitious, publishing projects weekly, as well as producing original authored content.

Beyond the platform, Pittogramma is active in education: lectures, workshops, courses, and mentoring both inside and outside universities. We organize and participate in events, designing installations, moderating talks and round tables, and serving as media partner for international events like the AGI Open Conference, DEMO Festival and many others. We also run 5+1, an informal series of events where five young designers visit a studio or creative space for an informal evening for an unfiltered look at professional life.

Over the years, Pittogramma has grown into a trusted point of reference within the Italian graphic design scene — and increasingly, beyond it. Today, alongside the platform, we work with brands, type foundries, universities, and cultural organizations that share our belief that the new generation of designers deserves attention and visibility.
